Creating an iSCSI share on TrueNAS

This information will help you create an iSCSI share on TrueNAS. iSCSI shares are a “block” storage device. They are defined as a particular size which can be increased later.

Creating a Zvol

  1. At Storage, Pools, select a pool and at the far right select the triple dots and Add Zvol
  2. Provide the Zvol name, a comment if need be and the size of the zvol.
  3. All ofthe other settings can be left as is.
  4. Press the Save button.

Share the Zvol

  1. At Services, start and start automatically the iSCSI service.
  2. At Sharing and Block Shares, click the “Wizard” button in the top right of the screen.
  3. Create or Choose Block Device - You can use a device (like a Zvol) or a file. Select the zvol you just created. Select the “Sharing platform” that best matches what will attach to this share. For Proxmox, select the “VMware” option. Press Next. Desktop View
  4. Select a Portal. This is usually an IP address and port. 3260 is the default iSCSI port. To be more secure, use CHAP under “Discovery Authentication Method”. Press Next.
  5. Select the Initiator settings. If you leave this blank, all initiators (devices attaching to this share) will be allowed. You can also restrict the networks allowed to connect. Press Next.
  6. Review the settings then press Submit.

That is it. All done.
